We're stoned at 428! --Walker Stoned, that is!

Walker Stone is the best high ever!

With every room there is always "that thing" that sets the entire design theme. It can be as small as a throw pillow with it's pop of color that makes a bedroom or living room begin to unfold in the owner's mind. For 428, it was the piece of quartz I saw as I quickly jumped out of my car that summer day soon after we bought 428. The minute I laid eyes on her I was in love. And today, she didn't disappoint!

And though the beautiful wet island quartz provides that edgy modern feel we had envisioned from the onset, it is these guys right here who made it all come together from the scary place inside my head.

As I write this, I have to say from the start I was worried. Our FORM friend and colleague, Alex Riley, had said from the start he could do concrete counter tops.....and had done them before. In my hand wringing way, I saw a huge gap for potential failure between "I have done concrete counter tops and "I do concrete counter tops". So I decided to meet with our local expert on all things concrete and tentatively scheduled Brent for 428. It was the "other Alex" on our team who pushed me right under the bus and announced I had decided to let the expert build the tops and not our own FORM Teammates.

Like all things transforming at 428 Harahan Blvd, I needed to believe in our team's vision, so I reversed my decision and said, "go for it!" And I'm so glad I did, These guys worked tirelessly in less than easy circumstances--and particularly, "Riley"--deserved to have his enthusiasm supported into the creative results he envisioned.

I'm so grateful for the results.....and also to our local concrete expert, Brent McKinney, for sharing some trade secrets and insight to make sure these counter tops would be the perfect finish to the "old world/new day" overall feeling we wanted in the kitchen.

And JUST to keep me humble and aware I have lots to learn, everyone who walks in the kitchen goes back and forth over which they love the most.....the edgy quartz island top....or those earthy hand made concrete counter tops which wrap beautifully along the original brick wall.

Thank you, Riley....Patrick....Expert Brent...and even my own son, Alex, for refusing to let me kick your enthusiasm to the curb.

And speaking of enthusiasm.....this man! Waylon Wright, we cannot speak of this kitchen and brick walls or brick anything without saying, "YOU are the BEST!" We are a lucky FORM Team!
